@Tezku Agreed and Good point about the adrenalin dump. The problem is a good 85% of civilians who have been trained in these techniques have never been around actual gun fire or fired a gun, so they have no idea what to realistically expect. Sometimes pain over comes mental determination in shocking situations. I’m not saying the disarms shouldn’t be trained, I just think that the reality of what to expect should be emphasized a bit more.

@WingChunMonkey True but like I’ve said. Has been proven martial artists can take guns away from assailants. Also if the gun happens to fire when you’ve got the guy rapped up or w/e the guy grabbing the gun would probably not realize it fired. Because he probably pumped full of endorphins and adrenalin. His mind would be on one thing, Take the gun at all costs.

@jcbamm26 No worries man, as martial artists we are all trying to achieve the same goal and that’s efficiency within our bodies and our minds and we all have ways to go about doing it. My path lead me to Wing Chun, yours to staying with Karate. I don’t think any less of the style and am proud to see it, it just wasn’t for me. Everyone is going to have an opinion, sometimes hurtful or offensive, but you just gotta step back sometimes and think if it is a shot or is it an observation?

@MrAchievementunlocke The argument of which style is better isn’t ever going to be proven. There are to many variables, and when it really comes down to it, it’s really more about the fighter and his ability to recognize openings and the tactics he’s using. I’ve seen Karateka beat Chinese Boxers and vice versa. Eshan just happens to be a really technical fighter that some aren’t prepared for. But again it goes back to the individual fighter.

@iJonikz As a martial artist I have to disagree with you. While yes some MA are out dated but others focus on realistic modern street combat against multipul assailants like Krav Maga, Wing Chun, Panantukan, Lerdrit, Sanda, Combat Sambo, Kajukenbo, among others. These styles don’t look as pretty or showy but they get they job done and keep you safe. The object is to protect yourself and some knowledge is better than none.

@Tezku the gun situation is a double edged knife. While a lot of MA will teach disarming techniques, I’ve participated in several seminars talking about said techniques. The problem is that a lot of the techniques don’t take into account that if the gun fires, while you may not get hit because of what you had done, the slide could rip your hand open, the barrel could burn you, the noise could stun or rupture your ear drum. So because of those factors a lot of gun disarms are not as effective.
